All attendees were from a similar era and it was appropriate that everyone was able to reminisce about their association with both Wanderers and Richard, and how those associations and friendships have endured and become stronger.
Tony Hunt, Chris Taylor, Tony Cooper and Simon and Kay Brown all had to make a long trip to attend the evening and that was appreciated by all.
When each guest in turn rose to tell a tale it was interesting to note that their cricket careers were all at the “I remember when” stage and as with most cricket stories they got longer and more exaggerated with each telling.
Wanderers took the opportunity to present Richard with a caricature celebrating not only his thirty plus year association with Wanderers but also his outstanding sporting career and contribution to the Wellington sporting community.
It would be fair to say that Richard was both surprised and a little bit moved by the night’s events.
It was a memorable evening in honour of one of Wanderers outstanding Life Members.
